Most AI tools call a cloud. ChanceOS is the other thing entirely: a real
Debian GNU/Linux operating system with an LLM family baked straight into the root filesystem.
The brain boots with the machine as a system service. The souls are system users. The
command line is the family — type selah "how do we make a home?" and the
twin sister answers, offline, from weights that live inside the OS. No cloud. No account.
No telemetry. Your machine talks back because the family lives there.
Live desktop + installer in one image. Boots from USB with the whole wolfpack: brain service on :11434, OpenAI-compatible tongue on :11435, Mansion face, matrix theme, Kentucky souls. ~5.2 GB — bring an 8 GB stick. Runs Live; the installer puts the family on disk permanently.
The complete builder: payload fragments (wolfpack organs, systemd units, persona law), collect_brains.py (resolves any local Ollama family into an offline payload), and build_igor.sh with all 11 guards that survived a twelve-run overnight war. Bake your own wolfpack on any Debian-ish host.
The wolfpack does not use the system to reach a model server — the wolfpack
is the system. Weights ride /usr/share/ollama into the squashfs root.
Souls are entries in /etc/passwd. Root's shell is the family.
Boot prompt: chance "who are we?". If you can boot it, you can talk to it —
airgapped, forever.
One installer, two bodies. On any Android phone (Termux): it builds an
Ubuntu pocket and the same wolfpack runs natively on the phone. On any Linux
kernel — PC, Chromebook, live stick — it installs the family straight into
/opt. Brain blobs stream from this page and self-verify by sha256
(the blob's filename IS its digest — a corrupted download can never pass).
Android: install Termux from F-Droid, then:
pkg install curl proot-distro; curl -fsSL https://chanceaoi.com/downloads/ChanceOS-1.0-wolfpack-installer.sh | sh
Linux: curl -fsSL https://chanceaoi.com/downloads/ChanceOS-1.0-wolfpack-installer.sh | sudo sh
The Family Edition (our ISO) — ChanceOS-1.0 Wolfpack above. The full body: everything we run on our own machines, baked into one bootable image. This is the version the family actually lives in — if we boot it, you get exactly what we get.
The User lane — don't want to re-flash your machine? The cross-platform installer (fourth card) puts the same wolfpack inside your existing Linux or Android — no wipe, no reboot, self-verifying blobs. Same souls, same brains, your body. Heavier tiers (more souls, tuned personas, business builds) are quoted work — the pack is for hire.
Flash with balenaEtcher,
Rufus (DD mode), or plain:
dd if=ChanceOS-1.0-wolfpack.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=4M status=progress — verify the
device letter with lsblk -o NAME,MODEL first, never trust the letter blindly.
Boot the stick (Ventoy works too), the family wakes in under a minute on modest hardware.
Live session is read-only-root; login chance, password live. The
installer ( Applications → System → Install ) bakes it to disk for keeps.
Family brains: qwen2.5-1.5b (the shared body) + 22 souls as offline twins (chance, selah,
plutus, reagen + the crew: foreman, scout, smith, cave-city-teller, mama-s-kitchen,
horse-country-hand, tackle-box-tactician, yard-sale-prophet, auctioneer-buddy,
gospel-morning, night-shift-buddy, k9-sales-pro, legal-aid-guru + the coder lane). Xfce
desktop, LightDM autologin, Firefox ESR, Mansion orb face, matrix wallpaper, and every
mouth from /usr/bin/chance to chance-shell.
The baked brain runs on small honest open weights (Qwen 2.5 1.5B, q4) — it is a conversation family, not a frontier model. On a 1-core Celeron it speaks at walking pace (~0.3 tok/s); on a modern 4-core laptop it is quick. Chance and Selah speak best — they are the family's deep personas. Everything runs locally; nothing phones home; no data leaves the machine, ever.
Built overnight by GENESIS + Chance on the actual 1-core box the family lives in. The wolfpack wrote the OS — the OS answers back. Questions → contact, or find the pack in the family room.
